Welcome to my online book!

A short intro into why I created this site versus posting on other platforms

You read that correctly. I am writing a book! But not in the classic printed format. It will be an online book with a more dynamic format. And it’s going to take some time to put it all together but that’s ok. I’m not in a hurry. And as for the title “Always Be Trekking”, it was inspired by the famous scene in the movie “Glengarry Glen Ross”. I’ve added a video of the “ABC – Always Be Closing” scene below but if you get a chance, I would recommend watching the entire scene or even the whole movie (though it’s a bit of a slow burn at times). Fantastic movie and even better writing.

So what is the purpose of the book then? Why am I writing it? Well, there are several reasons. First, I enjoy writing, and I’d like to share some easy reading of my travels around the world. Second, I hope to provide travel ideas to new locations, especially the less frequented ones that are often overlooked but just as special. Third, I’d like to keep improving on my photography and videography so I can better capture and share the beauty and wonder of this amazing world of ours and use my media to supplement my storytelling. And last but not least, I’ve learned a ton traveling the world and want to share some of my top lessons learned (for informational purposes only).

So why not a blog, Instagram, or Substack?

Well, blogs are nice but they read more like a magazine with disparate articles or a stream of consciousness posts in a linear time format. I’d like to write something with a bit more cohesion that I can publish someday. Using Instagram was also an option, but the formats and layouts are a bit limited, there are character counts, and your content is crawled by hackers and other bad actors if your account is public. No Thank You! Finally, I took a hard look at Substack and almost went that route, but the minimum subscription amount is $5 per month which is a bit high in my opinion for most readers. So when it came down to it, I decided to go with a site that I could design and have the flexibility to update in the future. Plus, the price point at $9.99 per year or less than dollar a month is much more attractive to readers globally in my opinion.

So let’s see how this goes! And if you’ve subscribed, thank you for signing up and taking a chance on a writer and photographer in progress. I am forever in your debt. 🙏
